NOx Sensor Fault? Fixed on Your Driveway, Same Day

A failing NOx sensor is one of the most common causes of an AdBlue warning light, SCR fault, limp mode, or an “engine will not restart” countdown, and one of the most misdiagnosed. We run a live diagnostic before touching anything, then bypass, delete or remove the faulty sensor on-site. London and the M25, six days a week.

NOx Sensor Bypass

An emulator reports a healthy, in-spec NOx sensor reading to the ECU without physically removing or deleting anything. Fully reversible, and the quickest way to stop a false-reading sensor triggering AdBlue or SCR warnings while the rest of the vehicle stays standard. The most common choice for daily-driven vans and cars.

NOx Sensor Delete

Removes the sensor from the ECU's expected inputs at software level and re-flashes accordingly, so a failed upstream or downstream sensor no longer throws fault codes or forces limp mode. Suited to vehicles where replacing the physical NOx sensor repeatedly hasn't solved the problem, or where the vehicle's being taken off standard emissions compliance.

NOx Sensor Remova

Physically takes the faulty NOx sensor or sensors out of the exhaust system and closes off the software side to match. Typically chosen for HGVs, plant or export vehicles where the sensor no longer needs to serve any purpose.

AdBlue Bypass

Emulator-based, fully reversible. Reads normal AdBlue levels without permanently altering software. Preferred by London fleets needing a fast, low-commitment fix.

Full AdBlue Service Callout Includes

What Is a NOx Sensor, and Why Do They Fail So Often?

01

Upstream Sensor

Measures raw NOx levels straight from the engine, before the AdBlue catalyst.

02

Downstream Sensor

Checks how much NOx remains after AdBlue dosing, confirming the SCR system’s actually working.

03

Where They Sit

One of the harshest spots on the vehicle, constant heat, moisture, exhaust gases and AdBlue crystallisation.

04

Why They Drift

Sensor elements degrade over time. Once readings fall outside the ECU’s expected range, it logs a fault and can trigger limp mode.

05

Typical Lifespan

Often straightforward wear at 80,000 to 120,000 miles. Earlier failure usually points to a bigger issue, water ingress, injector fouling, or misfire.

06

Why It Gets Misdiagnosed

A drifting sensor and a genuine AdBlue dosing fault trigger near-identical warning lights, so a healthy sensor sometimes gets replaced unnecessarily.

Benefits

Why Choose Our Mobile NOx Sensor Service

Correct Diagnosis First

We don't replace parts on a hunch. Live sensor data tells us whether it's the sensor, the wiring, or something else in the SCR system entirely.

No More False Warnings

Once fixed properly, the same AdBlue or NOx fault doesn't reappear two weeks later.

Lifetime Warranty

Software work is warrantied for as long as you own the vehicle.

Same-Day, On-Site

Most NOx sensor jobs are done in under 2 hours, wherever your vehicle's parked.

Signs you need this service

Signs of a Failing NOx Sensor

NOx sensor faults rarely announce themselves clearly. They usually show up disguised as a general AdBlue or SCR warning, which is part of why they get misread so often. The giveaway pattern is a warning light that clears after a reset but returns within days, sometimes tied to how hot the engine’s running, since a marginal sensor can behave differently cold compared to fully warmed through. If a sensor’s already been replaced once and the same fault comes straight back, that’s often a sign the original diagnosis was wrong, or a second sensor’s now failing too.

AdBlue or SCR warning light that clears then returns within days

Warning light behaviour changes between cold start and warmed-up running

Fault code for NOx sensor circuit or signal out of range

New sensor fitted, same fault returns within a week or two

Reduced power or hesitation under load with no other obvious cause

FAQs

What's the difference between AdBlue delete, removal and bypass?

A delete disables dosing at ECU level and re-flashes the emissions map — no hardware removed. Removal physically takes the SCR components off the vehicle. A bypass uses an emulator and is fully reversible. We’ll recommend the right one for your vehicle and use.

It depends on use. AdBlue delete and removal are intended for off-road, export or track use running on public roads without a functioning emissions system isn’t compliant with UK regulations and can affect your MOT.

If your vehicle’s under manufacturer warranty, an AdBlue modification is likely to affect emissions-related cover specifically. Unrelated components usually aren’t affected, but check your warranty terms first.

Most jobs take 2–3 hours on-site including diagnostics, the fix, and a road test. Combined jobs (e.g. AdBlue + EGR) may take longer — we’ll confirm at quote stage.
