AdBlue Fault · FAQs

AdBlue Fix Questions, Answered Honestly

Before you book a repair, here's what our technicians most often get asked about fixing AdBlue and SCR faults properly straight answers, no guesswork.

The usual signs are an AdBlue warning light on the dash, a message telling you the engine will "not restart" after a countdown of a set number of starts or miles, reduced power or the vehicle entering limp mode, an inaccurate AdBlue level reading (showing empty when the tank is full, or vice versa), or the AdBlue level dropping unusually fast between top-ups. Any of these point to a genuine fault in the SCR system rather than the vehicle just needing more fluid that's when a proper diagnosis is worth booking.
Topping up only clears the warning if low fluid level was actually the cause. If the light stays on or comes back quickly, the fault is almost always mechanical or electronic a failing NOx sensor giving a false reading, a dosing pump or injector not delivering fluid correctly, a blocked line, or a wiring fault and no amount of fresh AdBlue will fix that. It's also worth checking you're using a quality, ISO 22241-certified AdBlue; cheap or diluted fluid can itself trigger sensor faults over time.
We connect diagnostic equipment to read the live SCR data and stored fault codes NOx sensor readings, dosing pump pressure, injector activity, tank heater and level sensor status rather than just clearing the light and hoping it doesn't return. That tells us exactly which component has failed. Only once we know the real cause do we give you a fixed, written quote, so you're paying to fix the fault, not to guess at it.
A proper fix replaces or repairs the failed component sensor, pump, injector, heater, wiring, or crystallised lines and restores the SCR system to normal factory operation. It isn't a workaround or a masked fault; once repaired, the system doses AdBlue and monitors emissions exactly as the manufacturer designed it to, which is what keeps the vehicle MOT-compliant and road legal.
NOx sensors are the single most common failure we see, followed by the AdBlue dosing pump/module and injector. Tank-mounted components the level sensor and heating element also fail fairly often, especially on vehicles that sit unused for long periods, since AdBlue can crystallise in the lines and injector when it isn't circulated. Each of these is a distinct part with a different price and fitting time, which is why we diagnose before quoting rather than quoting a flat "AdBlue fix" price.
Yes parts we fit are covered against manufacturing defects, and if the same fault returns shortly after the repair we'll come back and look at it under the original job rather than charging a fresh call-out. The exact cover depends on the part replaced, and we'll confirm the specifics in writing alongside your quote so there's nothing to chase later.
Dealers can fix AdBlue faults too, but you're usually booking weeks ahead, dropping the vehicle off, and paying dealer labour rates. We come to you home, work, or roadside across London and the M25, six days a week, and because we specialise specifically in SCR and AdBlue faults across cars, vans and HGVs, our technicians see this exact fault far more often than a general service department does. You still get a written diagnosis and quote before anything is touched.
In most cases, yes. If the vehicle hasn't fully derated to zero starts yet, we can usually diagnose and repair the fault, then clear the countdown so the engine restarts and runs normally. If it has already hit a full lockout, the same repair still applies we fix the underlying fault and reset the system so it starts again. Either way, the sooner it's looked at, the less likely you are to be stranded, so we treat these as priority mobile call-outs.
Yes, we carry diagnostic equipment for cars, light commercial vans and HGVs, and repair the same range of SCR faults injectors, pumps, NOx sensors and dosing-control issues across all three. HGV jobs sometimes overlap with wider fault-finding on the truck's emissions and engine management systems; if that's the case, our HGV remapping and diagnostics service picks up from there.
Enter your registration in the quote box above, or give us a call, and we'll arrange a mobile diagnostic visit anywhere in London or the M25 area. There's no obligation you'll get a clear, written quote for the actual fault once we've diagnosed it, not a generic estimate.
